Liga Spunde Emerging artist

Artist's country of origin: Latvia

Liga Spunde (born 1990) holds a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Audio-Visual Media Art in the Department of Visual Communication in the Art Academy of Latvia. Along studying at Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium, she has participated in various projects and group exhibitions in Latvia, Germany, France and Belgium. In 2014, she received the art scholarship of Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation.

Liga´s main source of inspiration and influence comes from events, relationships and observations of absurd and uncanny in day to day life. It is the mundane situations that can be stripped back to the subjective meaning mainly determined by the artist herself. Liga’s work is an extremely subjective retelling of a story that invites the spectator to question the objective and subjective truth. Along using such mediums as photography and video, installation is a fundamental element in bringing the pieces of the story together.
