Tiina Sarapu

Tiina Sarapu

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Tiina Sarapu is a glass artist, who uses glass as material for sculpural and installative work, on a conceptual level as a step between visible and invisible worlds.
The starting point for her work is often sheet glass, which by seemingly simple bending is transformed into sculptural object. Edges and surfaces, self-sufficient, yet depending of each other, create an intricate multi-layered reality.
In Sarapu’s work, spatial layers of glass are often metaphorically perceivable as layers of time.

Tiina Sarapu is a glass artist working and living in Tallinn in Estonia.
She was born in 1971, studied glass art in Estonian Academy of Art in 1990–1996. Since 1996, when she defended her MA thesis, has been working for the Department of Glass of the Estonian Academy of Art as a teacher and technician, since 2003 as an associate professor.
She has taken part in several conferences, symposiums and workshops since 1994
both in Estonia and abroad. She has earned attention at several international contests of glass art. Her works are owned by several institutions and collectors. (M. Bukovec)
