Tõnis Laanemaa (born 1937) studied painting at the Tartu Art School and graphics at the Estonian State Institute. Initial leader and later a member of the innovative Estonian art group ANK’64 in the 1960s. Tõnis started participating at exhibitions with paintings, gained popularity primarily with graphics and posters, but throughout the era he has exhibited nudes, portraits and abstract compositions. Since 1970, Laanemaa has participated in several exhibitions in the Baltics, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Germany, Russia and the Netherlands. Tõnis Laanemaa belongs to the generation of artists, for whom proper drawing from nature is a matter of course. He has also gained recognition as an painter and is valued as a drawing teacher.
