Alina Orav

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Alina Orav (b.1989) is a visual artist originally from Tallinn, Estonia. She currently lives and works in Estonia and Ontario, Canada. She is a member of the Estonian Artist Association (from 2014) and the Estonian Painters Association (from 2019).  


Alina obtained her bachelor’s degree (2013) and master ́s degree (2017) in painting from the Estonian Academy of Arts. She has done additional studies at the universities in Florence (ABAF Academy, IT, 2011-2012) and Vancouver (ECUAD, CA, 2015). Alina has also completed anamorphic illusion internships in London (UK, 2013) and Amsterdam (NL, 2015) as well as an animation internship in Volda (NO, 2018).


The artist has made over 20 solo exhibitions: in Estonia (e.g. Haus Gallery in 2020, Amandus Adamson Studio Museum in 2016 and 2017, Haapsalu City Gallery in 2016, Pärnu City Gallery in 2015, and Hobusepea gallery in 2014); Vancouver (ECUAD, CA, 2015); Helsinki (Galleria A2, FI, 2018) and Isafjördur (Outvert Art Space, IS, 2020). Alina has participated in group exhibitions in Brande (DK), Berlin (DE), Firenze (IT), Helsinki (FI), Moscow (RU), Stockholm (SE), Vancouver (CA), Watford (UK), Venice (USA), Japan and Estonia. She has also curated and designed group exhibitions at the Concourse Gallery (Vancouver, 2015) and Estonia’s 100th-anniversary exhibition at Galleria Kuja (Helsinki, 2018).


In 2017 Alina obtained the State Real Estate Ltd Science and Development Grant for creating (2014) and developing the polyview image. In 2018, she presented her invention at the International Federation for Theatre Research World Congress in Belgrade (RS).


The artists’ works can be found in private collections ranging from Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Italy, and Great Britain to the United States, Iceland, and Russia.


The upcoming grand solo exhibition of Alina Orav will be held at the Cotton Factory – Hamilton’s creative arts center (Ontario, CA) in autumn 2022.
