Jaakko Hukkanen

Jaakko Hukkanen

Artist's country of origin: Finland

Jaakko Hukkanen (born 1991) lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. He works with oil paintings and sculpture. The paintings show artist’s imaginary world that refers to art history. Light, color, gestures and architecture that together create subtle emotions has the main role in the paintings. Hukkanen sees his sculptures as objects that came from inside these same imaginary places and has materialized into our reality. Hukkanen ponders about emotions that are related to a life of a human being. He tries to capture a feeling of silence that lets the emotions of the spectator immerse and reflect from the works. The lack of figures in the paintings leaves viewer all by themselves inside the painter’s world. The imagery of Hukkanen is strongly shaped by his interest in art history, especially to paintings of Italian Renaissance era. Jaakko Hukkanen is finishing his BFA degree in 2020 and starting his MFA studies at the beginning of 2021 in the University of Fine Arts Helsinki.
