Maarja Mäemets Emerging artist

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Maarja Mäemets (born 1991) is a young glass and photo artist, who in her artwork reflects personal fragility and metamorphosis of emotions, thoughts and actions – the mechanisms which feed the world. There’s no resting position for her, only endless movements. There is also a danger to get herself lost in those actions.

Mäemets got her Bachelor’s degree in glass art at Estonian Academy of Arts and since 2015 she is a Master student of the same subject. She did her exchange studies in Vienna. In her artwork, she approaches to glass as context-based, and does not to be stuck with the material, but create a symbiosis with it.

She has taken part in international exhibitions is Ukraine, St.Petersburg, Vienna and Latvia. Also many photo and glass exhibitions is Estonia.

In 2017 Mäemets won the main prize of Bildwerk Frauenau Student Prize with her project “Love. Underwater”.
