Maria Erikson

Artist's country of origin: Finland

Born in 1985 in Estonia, Erikson is currently living and working in Helsinki Finland where she is pursuing an MFA degree in the printmaking study area from the Academy of Fine Arts. Her work has been selected to prestigious MTG International Print Triennial in Krakow and BIECTR (Biennale internationale d’estampe contemporaine de Trois-Rivières) Biennial in Canada. In addition, she was a finalist for The Print Center´s 91st Annual International Competition (2017), where the selection was made by jurors Kelly Baum and Jennifer Farrell (both of The Metropolitan Museum of Art). Most recent exhibitions include a group show at Steneby Art Hall in Sweden; MFA degree show Kuvan Kevät at Exhibition Laboratory in Helsinki; and Viscosity: Women of Print at Frontline Arts/PCNJ in the USA. Erikson is a recipient of several scholarships and fellowships in Sweden, where she lived and worked between 2004-2013 and where she received her fundamental fine arts education (Grafikskolan and Göteborgs Konstskola). Her works are represented in the collections of Swedish Art Council, Mölndal City, Västra Götaland´s, and Örebro County in Sweden. Erikson was awarded with a Master Printer certificate from renown Tamarind Institute (NM, USA) in 2015 and has since been teaching lithography at the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn along with teaching lithography workshops at Uniarts Helsinki. The 2014 Virumaa Literature prize recipients were awarded with her printworks from Imaginary Landscape series. At the moment she is preparing for a group exhibition in association with Graphica Creativa: 15th International Printmaking Triennial at Jyväskya Art Museum in Finland opening in September 2019.
