Marje Taska

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Marje Taska was born December 5th, 1955 in Tallinn. She finished Tallinn Music High School where her main instrument was piano. She also studied Germanic languages at Tartu University.


Marje Taska began her art studies with Tõnis Vint, as one of his very first students. Her further activities in the field of art and languages belong to the Swedish period of her life. Since moving to Stockholm in 1982 she has lived in Lapland and in the south of Sweden. Today she is a freelance artist and curator with two home towns, Stockholm and Tallinn.


Marje Taska’s artistic career has been active and manifold. It includes installations, paintings, graphics, leatherworks, performances and sculptures.
Marje Taska’s works in solo as well as in group exhibitions have brought her acclaim in galleries, art halls and museums, including Malmö konsthall, Lunds konsthall, Röhsska Museum, Göteborg; Konstens Hus, Luleå; Liljevalchs konsthall, Stockholm, Arkitekturmuseet, Stockholm; Grand Palais (FIAC, Figuration Critique, La Biennale des Femmes), Paris; ETDM, Tallinn, Kumu, Tallinn, Kunstihoone, Tallinn, etc.


In 1990 the first grand exhibition of Estonian art at Galleri GKM, Malmö, was organised by Marje Taska in collaboration with Siwert Bergström, the gallery owner.


Marje Taska has also given lectures and carried out numerous curations and workshops. She has promoted Estonian art in Swedish press and television.


Marje Taska is a member of both the Estonian and Swedish Artists’ Association.
