The work of Martin Lazarev (born 1977 in Tartu), a graphic designer, illustrator and photographer from Estonia, provides viewers with a superb glimpse of the colourful clamour of the streets of Brazil.
Martin studied furniture design and restoration and traditional drawing at Tartu Art School. Having lived and worked in Brazil for over five years he has received much recognition, especially for his skill in capturing the local people. He is one of the most talented and versatile of Estonian designers, and has worked with a number of different agencies. Martin’s photographs have been used on the front covers of Brazilian photography magazines. At present his latest work, a stylish and compact ID card reader, called ID+, is attracting worldwide attention.
Martin rarely leaves home without his camera. “I am captivated by details and pure colour, and interesting, ugly, beautiful, ordinary old people,” explains Lazarev.
