Pusa

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Pusa (Piret Bergmann (Torim); born in 1979) has graduated from the Pärnu College of Estonian Academy of Arts, which was earlier and is also at present known as Academia Non Grata. She also currently lives and works in Pärnu. Pusa is mostly active as a painter, having exhibited her works in many solo and group shows.

Pusa describes herself as follows: «Mostly I paint and draw, sometimes I also write. I like little things in between big things, for example a small crack in a skyscraper’s fundament or the inside of a lemon peep or of bubble in the boiling porridge. I like to imagine life inside tiny things. I believe that there is brisk and colourful life inside those things. Roughly as I’m painting it».

In revent yers, Pusa is most widely known for her paintings featuring bright-coloured, almost psychedelic patterns, which make her art quite outstanding in Estonian art scene. She is a creator of her own worlds in the medium of mostly painting, but also in sculpture and installation.

Pusa has also illustrated and written several children`s books. She has received Ants Laikmaa Young Artist Award, the yearly award of culture of the Pärnu County in 2008 and Pärnu City Art Award in 2011 Pusa is a member of Estonian Artists’ Association (EAA).
