The Illusion of Memory, 2021

100 x 100 cm

In The Illusions of Memory, is focused more on the fact that we have to accept the existing, not on explaining regularities. Artist interpret these memories and create them into new illusions of memories. These are someone else’s memory illusions that turn into artist memories. Photography is a testament to the memory of the past, which is an illusion to us, an imaginary story, because we have not been present in the experience of that moment. And everyone present can also remember one event completely differently. Of course, that doesn’t mean they’re lying. But we know stories when we tell the same memory completely differently. What I express through the works is an illusion, a manipulation of the information obtained, which is passed on to the viewer. Who, in turn, reads this message and interprets it to create his illusion of what is perceived.

Artist inspiration is book by Allan Wats “Wisdom Of Insecurity”. The main lesson she learned from the book Wisdom Of Insecurity: A Message for an Age of Anxiety that “(…) tomorrow and tomorrow’s plans may not matter unless you are fully in touch with the reality of the present, because it is in the present and only in the present in which you live.“ Allan Wats states very clearly: “memory is a direct knowledge of the past, not an experience of the present, we have the illusion of knowing the past and the present at the same time. This suggests that we have something different from past and present experiences. But in reality we cannot compare this current experience with previous experience. We can only accept it as a memory of the past, part of the experience of the present.
