Leonhard Lapin’s drawings and serigraphies from the Machines series could be seen in the galleries since 1970s. Lapin’s concept could be described as follows: the world of machines and the culture created by machines is entirely new and independent part of nature with a clearly expressed structure. This structure encompasses not only isolated machines (locomotive, airplane or cash register) but also artificial objects and materials, relationships and processes in the widest sense right on through to modern hierarchies and industrial societies. The structure develops, expands and becomes more complex. The independent life of the world of machines also develops along with it and gradually retreats from mankind. — Excerpt from Leonhard Lapin’s exhibition catalogue “Machines”, 2016
