NOAR Nordic and Baltic contemporary art platform

A socially critical portrait project “49 Colors Of Susceptibility” combining the possibilities of contemporary digital photography of French origin Laurene Bois-Mariage and Google image search will open in the project space of the Photo Museum. The artist discusses the intensification of dissatisfaction in society due to the mixing of real and virtual life. Specially selected visual parallels with Andy Warhol's language of pop art do not diminish the originality of Bois-Mariage's conceptual meaning.

His series consists of portraits found using the phrase “angry person” entered into Google’s image search and processed by the artist in Photoshop using the Paint Bucket Tool. The result is telling – the models in the portraits seem to react to the color bucket emptied of them, playing with the causal links between production and post-processing, or metaphorically the causal links between the real and the virtual.
