Kadri Toom ”Packaged cities”

The works include strongly marketed urban structures, packaged skeletons of houses, the mystique of urban space and utopia. The artist observes visual strata in brand new districts. In the light of the construction boom, the mentality “quickly and more” and the closest possible construction will be visible.

Watching the still life and completion of the houses in progress, visuals have emerged that speak of amazement, emptiness, closure, repetition and silence. The presence of power and money, the ratios of power and performance, orderliness, uniformity and calculation also go unnoticed.

Kadri Toom (b.1984) graduated from Tartu Art College with a painting department and the Estonian Academy of Arts with a graphic arts department. After her studies, she has been in various residencies, participated in several international art projects and workshops. In addition to Estonia, she has had solo exhibitions in Latvia, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

The artist is fascinated by themes related to silence, emptiness and momentum. She mixes different techniques and materials in her work. In recent years, her work has focused on the field of experimental graphics.

Kadri Toom is a member of the Estonian Artists ‘Union and the Estonian Free Printmakers’ Association.
