Ascesis of Patience, 2021

Aluminium hula hoop, aluminium wire, human body. Patience is associated with suffering, but people often choose to suffer rather than act in the face of adversity — where is the boundary where virtue turns into flaw? The Ascesis of Patience is a reflection of the limit of personal patience, in which time-consuming monotonous actions are performed, requiring a strong psychophysical balance in the process. It is a deliberately chosen voluntary suffering with a purpose – hula hooping for 22:22 min., counting times of spins around waist, making 2925 chain links from wire and connecting them for 5:30 h. straight to one continuous chain. In performative space exhibited two videos and objects as an invitation for viewer to observe, cross chain created line or even try its own patience by trying to hula hoop. Boundaries approached and crossed help to understand individual meanings.
