What is in front of you but can't be seen?, 2021
Oil colour, acrylic, spray paint, airbrush and image transfer on cotton
This is the first one of my three-part painting series which was exhibited in the Kuvan Kevät 2021 -MFA degree show. The painting was acquired to the collection of the Päivi and Paavo Lipponen foundation. The games I used to play as a child have transformed into a conscious production of art. There are many similarities in art and child’s play: you need to be receptive, brave, and inquisitive. The goal is to have fun and to learn to understand. The crises in my life take me back to my childhood, to my roots. Making me question who am I? This idea was very topical to me in the autumn of 2020, as I was grieving the death of my father. In order to understand the present, I had to go back to the past. A city map carpet and a baby doll are recurring elements in my recent paintings. The carpet symbolises the environment, while the doll represents the protagonist. The protagonist grows up, and the environment changes. But there is one theme that remains constant: play. The works have been produced with oil, acrylic and spray paint, as well as image transfer on canvas.
