Ragna Bley is a young painter who investigates the language of abstraction in large-scale works on canvas. In her works, colour and form seem to shift between the artificial and the organic, almost like chemical processes within living organisms. In the titles of the works, we see evidence of her interests, such as literature, science, science fiction, and biopolitics.

At Malmö Konsthall, Ragna Bley will show an exhibition featuring new paintings produced during 2017 and 2018. A series of works will be shown in the main exhibition space, but another series of canvases prepared with pigments will be hung outside, in the konsthall’s courtyard. Here, the random shifts in the weather during the exhibition period will influence and produce the final, painted result: an uncontrollable, abstracting visual process, which is contrasted with the artists own, controlled work in a closed room.

Ragna Bley was born in Uppsala in 1986. She lives and works in Oslo.
